Musicians from 16 different countries will participate in the X Julián Arcas Classical Guitar Competition.
80% places filled.
Cajamar Foundation, organises and calls the XI "Julián Arcas" International Classical Guitar Competition to be held in Almería (Spain) on June 17-26, 2010.
This Competition is open to any performer of classical guitar, and its aim is to promote the use of this instrument.
There will be three categories in the Competition: the first one, for performers until 13 years old (i.e. born after 01-January-1997), the second one, for performers until 18 years old (i.e. born after 01-January-1992), and the third one will be the absolute category (no age limit). Competitors will only be allowed to enter one of the categories.
The Competition in the First Category will be called “Antonio de Torres“, in the second category will be called “José Tomás“, and only in the third category the competition will be called “Julián Arcas“.
“ANTONIO DE TORRES“ INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
On June 19, 2010, at 9:00, at the “Roquetas de Mar Music School“, a public draw will be carried out to determine the performing order of all the competitors registered in the first category, who will have to be compulsorily present at this place.
According to the order established in the draw, and at the place and on the date that are stated, the contestants who have been accepted will have to play:
First and only round
A repertoire chosen by the contestant not shorter than 5 minutes and not longer than 10 minutes.
“JOSÉ TOMÁS“ INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
On June 20, 2010, at 9:00, at the “Roquetas de Mar Music School“, a public draw will be carried out to determine the performing order of all the competitors registered in the second category, who will have to be compulsorily present at this place.
According to the order established in the draw, and at the place and on the date that are stated, the contestants who have been accepted will have to play:
First round
Final
The contestants who have overcome the first round will play a program chosen by them with pieces of two different styles at least, with a maximum length of 15 minutes. Pieces from the first round will not be allowed.
“JULIÁN ARCAS“ INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
(Limit of participants: 50)
The draw for the competitors will be carried out on June 15, 2010 by the Organising Committee, and the participants are not required to presence this day. Results of the draw will also be posted online at http://www.julianarcas.com. According to the order established in the draw, and at the place and on the date that are stated, the contestants who have been accepted will have to play:
First Round (June 23-24). Place: Maestro Padilla Auditorium.
Second Round (June 25). Place: Maestro Padilla Auditorium.
The contestants who have overcome the first round will play a program chosen by them with pieces of two different periods at least, with a maximum length of 20 minutes. Pieces from the first round will not be allowed.
Final (June 26). Place: Maestro Padilla Auditorium.
After the Competition second round, the Jury will announce the contestants who will perform in the Final round on June 26.
Contestants will play a program chosen by them with pieces of Isaac Albéniz, with a maximum length of 15 minutes. Pieces from the first or second round will not be allowed.
Besides the program of Isaac Albéniz, contestants will play a concerto for guitar and orchestra chosen by them between:

GENERAL NOTICES
Competitors may be interrupted at any time during their performance in any of the categories if the Jury considers it suitable.
When every round has finished, the Jury will announce the competitors who have overcome it and who will perform in the following one.
All performances in the competition must be played entirely from memory.
The performing order in the following rounds will be the same as in the first
PRIZES
“Antonio de Torres“ International Competition (First Category)
5 equal prizes of 120 euros each.
“José Tomás“ International Competition (Second Category)
First Prize: 1.000 Euros.
Second Prize: 500 Euros.
Third Prize: 300 Euros.
“Julián Arcas“ International Competition (Third Category)
First Prize: 10.000 euros
Second Prize: 4.000 euros
Third Prize: 2.000 euros.
Award to the best spanish music player:
Prizes may be divisible, and the Jury may not award some of them. The contestants who are awarded a prize will have to collect it personally at the place and the time which are indicated.
The winner of the first prize yields in exclusive the necessary phonographic rights for the record edition of the CD recording that composes the prize.
All those who take part in the Final will receive 300 Euros, which are not cumulative to other prizes.
The amounts awarded as Prizes will be deducted the withholding according to what is established by the income tax.
JURY
The examining Jury will be made up of the following personalities of the musical scope:
The Jury´s awarding will be unappealable. To award the Prizes, the Jury will evaluate the contestant´s performance and programming in all Competition rounds.
ORGANISING COMMITTEE
The Organising Committee of the Competition is headed by Mr. Jerónimo Molina, and it is made up of representatives of the corporations and collaborating institutions with the Competition, as well as of people with a recognised musical prestige.
The Organising Committee commits itself to accept contestants´ applications. Those contestants who do not appear at the time established by the Organisation for the Competition without a justified reason, will be excluded from this Competition, even if they had been previously included.
The Committee also commits itself to solve the questions which may arise in cases not foreseen in the interpretation of these Rules.
REGISTRATION
The Competition registration is free, there is no fee. Applications will be made in writing, in person or by mail before June 15 2010, and they will be addressed to:

In order to be registered, the use of the forms provided by the Organisation is advisable.
Together with the registration form, contestants will enclose the following documents:
The Organising Committee will provide information in regard to accommodation to those contestants who may require it. Please ask.
FINAL PROVISIONS
All rounds will be open to the public and may be recorded either in Video or Audio.
The “JULIÁN ARCAS“ INTERNATIONAL CLASSICAL GUITAR COMPETITION reserves, during and after the Competition, the right to broadcast every performance on Radio, TV, Video or any other media, including the Final. Contestants will not receive any payments or fees from this broadcasting.
The concerts which are part of the First Prize will take place during the year after the Competition. The Organisation will not be responsible in any case for the variations which, for reasons beyond its control, may occur.
The Organising Committee will not be liable for the compensation for possible damage caused or suffered by contestants because of the Competition. In case of doubt in the interpretation of these Rules, the Spanish version will be the valid one.
The request to be registered implies that these Rules are known and accepted.
